Community Connections

Together for Retarded Youth

Together for Retarded Youth (TRY) - A non-profit organization serving the social and recreational needs of the mentally and/or physically retarded teenagers and young adults in the greater North Hills area, including Butler County. Last year's attendance was 240 members including their families. This annual event is one held close to Senator Orie's heart.

Students Together Organizing Prevention (S.T.O.P.)

Students Together Organizing Prevention (S.T.O.P.) - Brings together 1,500 students from 25 school districts in Western PA. Theses students perform skits covering the many important topics concerning students such as rape, violence, racial intimidation, bullying, teen pregnancy, and drug and alcohol abuse. The purpose of the STOP Convention is to help with prevention and protection of our students from the problems that are plaguing our schools.

Reach Out and Touch a Hero

Reach Out and Touch a Hero - Sponsored by Senator Jane Orie, this program was established to honor and commend our servicemen. A website was created that enables students to send secure e-mails to servicemen and servicewomen stationed around the world. Please click here to view the website and Senate Resolution

Senior Expo

Senior Expo - Every year Senator Orie hosts the annual Senior Expo including over 120 booths providing vital information on senior living and wellness, continuous entertainment, hundreds of door prizes, special guest appearances, a continental breakfast and a lunch and more!

 
Emergency Responders Forum

Emergency Responders Forum - The purpose of this event is to gather information and resources regarding local efforts in keeping the community and its citizens safe.

There Ought to be a Law

There Ought to Be a Law - Senator Orie invites students in the 7th and 8th grades of the 40th District to participate in her "There Ought to be a Law" Contest. They can submit an idea for a new Pennsylvania law. One winner is offered a special visit and tour with their parents to the State Capitol in Harrisburg.

Valentines for Veterans

Valentines for Veterans - For Valentines Day each year, Senator Orie visits veterans hospitals in her district to meet with the patients and present them with Valentines made by children in the local area schools of the 40th District.

 

Veterans Forum - The purpose of this event is to recognize and pay tribute to those men and women who have proudly served our great Nation.
