Orie and Ferlo Submit Formal Comments In Opposition to PITG Casino Bailout

Today, Senator Jane Orie (R-Allegheny) and Senator Jim Ferlo (D-Allegheny) announced that they have submitted formal comments to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in connection with the Application by PITG Gaming to change the terms of its license.  Both Senators have also asked that all documents related to the change in ownership, business structure, and financing be made available to the public. 

Last week, PITG Gaming filed an application with the Gaming Control Board in which it stated that it has been notified by its existing lenders that it is in default of its loan obligations.  Before the casino even begins operations, the application also asks for a major restructuring in ownership in which the current majority partner would relegate itself to minority status and select the persons and entities who would replace it. 

“It is the statutory duty of the Gaming Board to protect the public’s interests, not to save a distressed casino investor and rescue a faltering development project,” stated Orie. “The request by PITG seeks to substitute a failed licensee with its own choice for an entirely new licensee, in contravention of the law.” 

Senator Ferlo added, "A process must be put in place that ensures transparency and fairness for the future of the Pittsburgh casino license.  The proposal being put forward by PITG amounts to an end run around the application process established by the legislature and the Gaming Control Board." 

In their formal submission, the Senators seek to have the Board reconsider the award of the license to PITG Gaming, and to have the process opened up to the potential for new applicants.
